ADAMA and BASF Agricultural Solutions to Co-Develop Gilboa® Fungicide Technology

19 December 2025, Tel AvivADAMA Ltd. and BASF have entered into a co-development and commercialization agreement focused on ADAMA’s fungicide active ingredient, Gilboa® (flumetylsulforim). The partnership aims to develop disease management solutions for farmers in Europe, addressing fungicide resistance and crop protection needs.

Under the agreement, BASF will develop and commercialize new formulations based on ADAMA’s Gilboa molecule, in parallel with ADAMA’s own Gilboa-based products. The collaboration combines ADAMA’s experience in active ingredient development and mixtures with BASF’s development infrastructure and market reach. ADAMA and BASF will independently determine product concepts, pricing, sales, and go-to-market strategies.

European agriculture is experiencing regulatory changes, including the withdrawal of certain existing active ingredients, increasing the need for alternative crop protection tools. Gilboa provides a new mode of action for cereals and has been classified under FRAC Group 32 (nucleic acid metabolism) earlier this year. The active ingredient is intended for use in cereal disease management and as a basis for additional formulations.

Florian Wagner, Executive Vice President, Portfolio and Innovation, ADAMA

Florian Wagner, Executive Vice President, Portfolio and Innovation, ADAMA, said that the collaboration is intended to provide cereal growers in Europe with additional options for disease control and that BASF was selected as a partner based on shared development and commercialization objectives.

Marko Grozdanovic, Senior Vice President, Global Strategic Marketing, BASF Agricultural Solutions

Marko Grozdanovic, Senior Vice President, Global Strategic Marketing, BASF Agricultural Solutions, said that BASF and ADAMA have collaborated on several projects over the past decade and that the current agreement brings together BASF’s fungicide portfolio and market presence with ADAMA’s active ingredient development.

Subject to regulatory approvals, the companies plan to introduce Gilboa-based formulations for wheat in Great Britain in 2027, with wider European launches planned for 2029.
