Fendioxypyracil

30 June 2025, US: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has provisionally approved a new common name—fendioxypyracil—for a herbicide developed by BASF SE. The decision was announced on 25th June 2025, and the name corresponds to the active substance ethyl 2-[2-[[3-chloro-6-[3,6-dihydro-3-methyl-2,6-dioxo-4-(trifluoromethyl)-1(2H)-pyrimidinyl]-5-fluoro-2-pyridinyl]oxy]phenoxy]acetate (CAS number: 2158274-50-9).

The provisional approval marks an important step in the formal recognition of new crop protection compounds under the ISO 1750 standard, which governs the nomenclature for pesticides and other agricultural chemicals. Once officially approved, the name “fendioxypyracil” will be adopted globally for regulatory, trade, and scientific communications.

Stakeholders who believe the proposed name infringes on trademarks or other proprietary rights have until 25th December 2025 to submit objections to the ISO Maintenance Agency. In the absence of any objections, the name will be formally included in the next edition of ISO 1750, alongside preferred and common names for agrochemicals.
