UPL Corp Launches L-tek Weed Control Technology in Paraguay, Set to Expand in Latin America
16 June 2025, New Delhi: UPL Corp has introduced its new L-tek technology in Paraguay, marking the first commercial launch of this innovation in Latin America. The company plans to expand its availability to other countries across the region in the near future, aiming to support farmers with more efficient herbicide solutions while promoting sustainable farming practices.
The L-tek™ technology focuses on enhancing the performance of glufosinate, a herbicide widely used as an alternative to glyphosate. Traditionally, glufosinate is a racemic mixture containing both l-phosphinothricin and its d-isomer. Through L-tek™, UPL Corp removes the d-isomer, producing one of the purest active ingredient formulations currently available. This higher purity enables a 45% lower usage rate compared to standard glufosinate products.
In practical terms, fields benefit directly from this efficiency. A 500-acre farm would require only 92 gallons of the L-tek™-powered product, compared to 168 gallons of conventional glufosinate. Similarly, a 200-hectare field would need just 440 litres versus 800 litres under traditional formulations.
The first product featuring this technology, Lifeline Mega, is already available to farmers in Paraguay. UPL Corp states that products powered by L-tek™ represent the next evolution in weed control, helping farmers maintain cleaner fields while reducing input volumes, contributing to long-term environmental sustainability.
