Parallel Forum I of the Global South Modernization Forum Highlights China’s Poverty Alleviation Practices and Cooperation with the Global South
28 November 2025, China: Parallel Forum Ⅰ of the Global South Modernization Forum, themed “China’s Fight Against Extreme Poverty and the Global South’s Poverty Reduction Initiatives”,was held in Beijing on November 21. As an integral component of the main forum, the parallel forum I brought together senior officials and scholars. Vice Minister Maierdan Mugaiti attended the parallel forum Ⅰ and delivered remarks.
The parallel forum I reviewed the global implications of China’s poverty alleviation achievements and its cooperation with Global South partners in advancing a community with a shared future for humanity featuring zero poverty and shared development. It aimed to share China’s experience in poverty reduction, strengthen cooperation among Global South countries, and explore pathways to address global poverty and sustainable development. The discussions also underscored the importance of implementing the Global Development Initiative and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Participants commended China’s accomplishments, noting that under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China secured a decisive victory in its battle against poverty and has continued consolidating and expanding these gains. They highlighted China’s people-centered and targeted strategies as valuable insights for Global South countries exploring modernization pathways suited to their own conditions.
Participants emphasized that poverty reduction remains central to economic development, social stability, and improvements in people’s well-being. They called for deeper mutual learning among Global South countries and the joint pursuit of development paths that are both equitable and sustainable, so as to advance global poverty reduction cooperation and inclusive development.
The parallel forum I was hosted by the MARA, co-hosted by the Office of the Central Financial and Economic Affairs Leading Group (the Office of the Central Rural Work Leading Group), Renmin University of China, and East China Normal University, and organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, an institution affiliated to the MARA. The parallel forum I assembled around 60 experts, scholars, and representatives from China and abroad.
