He recalled India’s remarkable journey from being an importer of red wheat under the PL-480 programme to becoming a food grain exporter. “Our granaries are full today because of the relentless efforts of our farmers and the dedicated work of agriculture advisors who ensure research translates to results in the field,” he noted.

Bihar’s Key Role in Pulses and Maize Self-Reliance

Highlighting Bihar’s strengths, Chouhan said the state has immense scope to lead in pulse and maize cultivation. Under the Pulses Mission, he said, India aims to achieve self-reliance in pulses, with agriculture advisors playing a crucial role in realizing this vision.

He also underlined the government’s continued support to farmers through an increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for key crops, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring farmers’ welfare and income stability.

Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana for Low-Productivity Districts

Chouhan informed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana is targeting districts with lower productivity — including several in Bihar.
“Under this initiative, eleven departments will work together in coordination to enhance agricultural productivity in these regions,” he said, stressing the importance of convergence and collaboration in achieving tangible results.

‘Nation First’ Approach to Agriculture

Referring to the Prime Minister’s guiding principle of ‘Rashtrahit Sarvopari’ (Nation First), Chouhan reiterated that India will never compromise on the interests of its farmers. “India today is moving forward as an independent and sovereign nation, acting on its own terms,” he declared.

Praising the achievements of Bihar’s farmers, he said the state continues to perform strongly across multiple crops and will remain a vital pillar of India’s agricultural growth and prosperity.
“Bihar’s farmers are resilient and innovative. Their contribution will define the future of India’s food security,” Chouhan concluded.
