Five Indians Recognized in 2025 Top Agri-Food Pioneers List by World Food Prize Foundation

25 June 2025, New Delhi: The World Food Prize Foundation has announced its prestigious 2025 Top Agri-Food Pioneers (TAP) list, recognizing 39 innovators from 27 countries for their impactful contributions to global food and agriculture systems. Among them, Five distinguished individuals from India have been named for their exemplary work in agricultural science, sustainability, food systems innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Now in its second edition, the TAP list highlights individuals advancing bold and practical solutions to pressing global food security challenges. The honorees will be officially recognized at the 2025 Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue, scheduled from October 21–23 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Indian Honorees on the 2025 TAP List:

1. Dr. Avijit Ghosh
Scientist, ICAR-Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute
Dr. Ghosh has been instrumental in enhancing India’s fodder resource base through improved grassland management and forage technologies, directly addressing feed scarcity for livestock and supporting rural livelihoods.

2. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Dar
Global Head – Seed Systems, Principal Scientist, ICRISAT
Dr. Dar leads global seed systems strategies for dryland crops at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), focusing on sustainable seed supply models that improve smallholder access to climate-resilient varieties.

3. Sanjeev Kapoor
Culinary Icon, Humanitarian and Entrepreneur
Renowned chef and television personality Sanjeev Kapoor has been acknowledged for leveraging his culinary influence to promote nutritious, local, and sustainable food choices. He is also recognized for his humanitarian initiatives supporting food access in underserved communities.

4. Aadith Moorthy
Founder and CEO, Boomitra
An AI-driven agritech entrepreneur, Aadith Moorthy’s startup Boomitra uses satellite technology and soil data to help farmers improve carbon sequestration and access global carbon markets. The platform has expanded across multiple continents, offering climate-smart solutions to farmers.

5. Dr. Boddupalli Maruthi Prasanna
Distinguished Scientist and Regional Director for Asia, CIMMYT
Based at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), Dr. Prasanna has played a central role in developing and disseminating improved maize varieties across Asia, contributing to regional food and nutritional security.

These honorees reflect India’s diverse strengths across scientific research, entrepreneurship, culinary innovation, and climate-smart agriculture. “The inclusion of these Indian professionals on a global platform like the TAP list is a testament to the country’s growing leadership in agri-food transformation,” said a spokesperson from the World Food Prize Foundation.

The TAP network is designed not only to recognize excellence but also to encourage global collaboration across disciplines, sectors, and geographies in pursuit of a more just and resilient food system.
