India’s 9.3 Crore Farmers to Receive PM-KISAN 20th Instalment on August 2, 2025 – PM Modi to Release ₹2000 Each from Varanasi
30 July 2025, New Delhi: In a major development for India’s agricultural sector, the Government of India has announced that the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme will be released on 2 August 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will transfer the funds from his parliamentary constituency Varanasi, benefitting an estimated 93 million (9.3 crore) farmers across the country.
The Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed that each eligible farmer will receive ₹2000 directly in their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). An SMS notification will be sent to the farmers’ registered mobile numbers once the transaction is complete, signaling the arrival of the funds to assist with ongoing Kharif season agricultural activities.
A Timely Support for Farmers During Kharif Season
With sowing operations intensifying during the monsoon period, this instalment of financial support is expected to provide critical relief to millions of small and marginal farmers, helping them meet input costs such as seeds, fertilizers, labour, and other seasonal requirements.
The Varanasi event on August 2 will be part of a large-scale farmer outreach initiative, during which the Prime Minister is expected to interact with cultivators and agricultural stakeholders. This synchronized fund transfer with “one-click disbursement” is designed to reinforce the government’s focus on agri-welfare and rural prosperity.
About PM-KISAN and the Scheme’s Reach
Launched in 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme aims to provide ₹6000 per year in three equal instalments to landholding farmer families, helping stabilize their income and encourage sustainable farming practices. Since its inception, 19 instalments have already been disbursed, with the program now entering its sixth year.
The scheme covers all landholding farmers, provided they are not income tax payers, institutional landholders, or government employees. Importantly, only those farmers who have completed e-KYC verification will be eligible for the upcoming instalment. The government has reiterated that e-KYC is mandatory for receiving the benefits.
India’s Commitment to Farmer Welfare
The release of the 20th instalment aligns with the Indian government’s broader efforts to strengthen rural livelihoods, improve farm productivity, and enhance financial inclusion for the agrarian community. With over ₹2.8 lakh crore already disbursed since the scheme’s inception, PM-KISAN stands as one of the largest direct income support programs for farmers globally.
