Madhya Pradesh Wheat Scam 2025: Soil and Stones Found in Wheat Sold at MSP, Massive Fraud Uncovered in Jabalpur Warehouse
26 May 2025, Bhopal: A major wheat adulteration scam has come to light in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh, where wheat sold to the government at Minimum Support Price (MSP) was found to be mixed with soil, stones, and gravel. The fraud was uncovered during an official investigation conducted as part of the Rabi Marketing Season 2025–26.
Based on a written complaint by food department officials, a case has been registered at the Majholi Police Station against warehouse operator Nitesh Patel, procurement center in-charge Sheela Bai Kushwaha, and the president of Sabla Cluster-Level Organization, Kankardeehi.
What Did the Investigation Reveal?
According to a report filed by Junior Supply Officer Kunjan Singh Rajput, a surprise inspection was carried out at the wheat procurement center for the Rabi Marketing Year 2025–26. At the “Maa Rewa” warehouse, 1,000 government-marked gunny bags and 270 plastic bags filled with wheat were found. Additionally, nearly 100 quintals of wheat were stored in an open pile.
Shockingly, behind the warehouse, 250 plastic bags were found filled with soil and stones. Another 185 government-marked bags contained adulterated wheat, with 70-75% of the contents comprising soil, gravel, and stones.
Authorities also seized three electronic weighing scales, two bundles of red sewing thread, and 65 empty government wheat bags. Furthermore, 230 plastic bags filled with soil and stones were discovered loaded on a vehicle parked nearby.
The vehicle owner’s son, Rohit Sahu, revealed that the truck was registered in his father’s name and that it was hired by warehouse operator Nitesh Patel. He claimed that soil-laden bags were transported from Lamtra village in Katni district at a rate of ₹4,500 per trip, and laborers were paid ₹7 per bag for filling.
Irregularities at the Procurement Center
In another investigation at the Om Sai Ram Warehouse (125) managed by the Sabla Cluster-Level Organization in Kankardeehi, 1,020 government wheat bags were found missing. Procurement in-charge Sheela Kushwaha failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for the missing stock.
The administrative report confirmed that both the warehouse operator and the procurement in-charge were involved in tampering with and misappropriating government wheat. A formal case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Essential Commodities Act.
This scam raises serious concerns about the integrity of wheat procurement and storage processes under the MSP system in Madhya Pradesh. Authorities are expected to take strict action against the accused following the investigation.
