Soybean Seed Samples Collected in Shivpuri, Following Farmers’ Complaints

14 July 2025, ShivpuriIn response to complaints from farmers in Bairad tehsil of Shivpuri district—located in the state of Madhya Pradesh—the local administration has initiated swift action to address concerns over poor germination of soybean seeds.

Following directives from District Collector Ravindra Kumar Choudhary, an official investigation team led by the Deputy Director of Farmers’ Welfare and Agriculture Development inspected Rajouria Krishi Seva Kendra in Bairad. The retailer was found to be a licensed seed distributor and had sold approximately 150 quintals of certified soybean seed sourced from Arihant Agro Seeds, Ujjain (also in Madhya Pradesh).

The physical condition of the seed was found to be satisfactory, and samples have been sent to an agricultural laboratory for germination testing. As part of the investigation, the team also visited affected farmlands in Ghazigarh village on July 9 and Toda village on July 10.

Initial findings suggest that continuous rainfall immediately after sowing significantly impacted germination. Other contributing factors included deeper-than-optimal sowing, waterlogging, and soil crust formation. However, fields sown with alternative crops such as groundnut and pearl millet (bajra) showed relatively healthier crop conditions.

Based on the complaint, the seed retailer’s shop has been temporarily sealed, and further action will be taken following the results of the laboratory analysis. The Deputy Director confirmed that, at present, there is no indication of counterfeit seeds being sold in the district.
