Africa House Expands Operations to Ghana with Keta Hydroponics

25 December 2025, GhanaAfrica House (Africa Hydroponics Limited) has expanded its operations to Ghana with the establishment of Keta Hydroponics by Africa House in the Volta Region.

Keta is a coastal town that experienced significant environmental impact several decades ago due to sea erosion and tidal waves. The new hydroponics facility marks an agricultural intervention in the area, focused on food production and livelihood support.

Keta Hydroponics operates using a vertical smart hydroponics system. According to the company, the system is designed to produce yields comparable to or higher than conventional soil-based farming on one acre, while occupying a footprint of approximately 10 feet by 10 feet. The crops are grown without soil and are produced under controlled conditions.

The hydroponics model is being positioned as an option for areas affected by land degradation, including regions impacted by illegal mining activities, as well as locations with poor soil quality. The system allows for year-round cultivation and is designed to use significantly less water than conventional farming methods. Crop production is not dependent on seasonal rainfall or soil condition.

In 2025, Africa House conducted a Ghana Hydroponics Tour, during which training programmes were held for women, youth, students, and farmers in different parts of the country. Training activities in the Volta Region included participants from remote farming communities, including older farmers.

The company’s approach includes training communities to construct and manage hydroponics systems independently. This model focuses on skill transfer and local management rather than system deployment alone.

Since 2020, Africa House reports having trained more than 2,000 people across several African countries. Its work has involved collaboration with government bodies, educational institutions, and development partners. The company has also worked with University of Ghana on recent initiatives related to hydroponics and agricultural research.
