High Yielding Soybean Varieties Recommended for Kharif 2025 in Gujarat

25 May 2025, New Delhi: Gujarat continues to be a key state in India’s soybean cultivation map, contributing significantly to the country’s oilseed production. As Kharif 2025 approaches, farmers in Gujarat are encouraged to align their sowing schedule with the monsoon patterns, targeting the second week of June to the first week of July for optimal sowing. Importantly, sowing should only commence after the receipt of at least 100 mm of rainfall to ensure proper moisture availability for seed germination.

One of the most effective agronomic practices recommended for improving and stabilizing soybean yields is deep summer ploughing, to be carried out once every three years. This technique enhances soil health by breaking compacted layers, improving root penetration, and reducing the presence of soil-borne pathogens and weeds. If not already performed, this should be followed by two criss-cross harrowings to prepare the seedbed. Typically, in normal years, a combination of criss-cross harrowing and planking prepares the field adequately for sowing.

For the Kharif 2025 season, soybean farmers in Gujarat have access to a range of centrally notified varieties that are well-suited to the agro-climatic conditions of the state. The recommended varieties include NRC 165, JS 22-12, JS 22-16, NRC 150, NRC 152, JS 21-72, RVSM 2011-35, NRC 138, EMS 100-39, RVS 76, NRC 142, NRC 130, MACS 1520, RSC 10-46, RSC 10-52, AMS-M-B-5-18, AMS 1001, JS 20-116, JS 20-94, JS 20-98, and NRC 127. These varieties have been selected for their high yield potential, adaptability to local conditions, and resistance to prevalent pests and diseases.

Although no additional Gujarat-specific varieties have been released by the state, the centrally recommended varieties are thoroughly evaluated for suitability in Gujarat’s diverse agro-climatic zones. Farmers are advised to choose varieties based on local experiences, seed availability, and soil compatibility.

With timely sowing, the right seed variety, and proper land preparation, farmers in Gujarat can look forward to a productive soybean harvest in Kharif 2025. For expert advice and region-specific guidance, they should connect with local Krishi Vigyan Kendras and agricultural extension officers.
