ISO Provisionally Approves New Common Name “Cyanoflanilide” for Meta-Diamide Insecticide

10 November 2025, New Delhi: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has provisionally approved a new common name, “cyanoflanilide,” for a meta-diamide insecticide developed by Metisa Biotechnology Co. Ltd. The approval was granted on November 4, 2025, marking an important step in the chemical’s global regulatory identification process.

The Chinese common name for the compound is 溴氰氟苯酰胺, and its full chemical name is:
N-[3-[[[2-bromo-4-[1,2,2,2-tetrafluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethyl]-6-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]amino]carbonyl]-2-fluorophenyl]-N-(cyanomethyl)-4-fluorobenzamide [CAS No. 2915290-26-3].

The provisional approval means that the name “cyanoflanilide” has been accepted pending any objections. ISO invites stakeholders to file objections if they believe the name may infringe on existing trademarks or other intellectual property. Objections must be submitted to the ISO Maintenance Agency by May 4, 2026.

If no objections are received by the deadline, the name “cyanoflanilide” will be formally approved and included in a forthcoming edition of ISO 1750, which standardizes common names and preferred nomenclature for pesticides and related chemicals.
