ISO Provisionally Approves New Herbicide Name “Toxapyzone” Developed by Shandong Dehao Chemical
01 July 2025, New Delhi: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has provisionally approved a new common name, toxapyzone, for a herbicide developed by Shandong Dehao Chemical Co., Ltd. The announcement was made by the ISO 1750 Maintenance Agency on 25 June 2025.
Toxapyzone is a benzoylpyrazole-based herbicide, and its chemical name is:
1-[[4-[3-(4,5-dihydro-3-isoxazolyl)-2-methyl-4-(methylsulfonyl)benzoyl]-1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl]oxy]ethyl methyl carbonate (CAS No. 3034584-16-9).
This provisional approval gives stakeholders a six-month window to raise any objections regarding the use of the name toxapyzone. Objections, including potential trademark conflicts, must be submitted to the Maintenance Agency by 25 December 2025. In the absence of objections, the name will receive full approval and will be included in the updated edition of ISO 1750, which lists both preferred and common names for pesticides and related substances.
