Effective Management of Blight in Onion with Zineb 75% WP
Disease Management in Onion Crop in India
18 May 2025, New Delhi: Blight in onion, often caused by Alternaria porri, leads to purple blotches and necrotic leaf tips, severely impacting yield and bulb storage quality. Early symptoms include small white flecks surrounded by a purple halo.
To address this disease, the Central Insecticide Bureau under India’s Ministry of Agriculture recommends Zineb 75% WP, a broad-spectrum fungicide known for its protective properties.
- Active Ingredient (a.i.): 1.125 – 1.5 KG/ha
- Formulation Dosage: 1.5–2 KG/ha
- Water Dilution: 750–1000 Litres/ha
- Waiting Period: Not specified
Farmers should begin application at the onset of disease symptoms and continue at 10–15 day intervals, depending on weather conditions. Zineb forms a protective barrier on the plant surface, preventing fungal invasion.
