IMD Alert: Heavy Rainfall to Lash Multiple States Across India Over the Next 7 Days
01 September 2025, New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert forecasting widespread rainfall activity across northern, western, eastern, and southern parts of the country over the next week. Several regions are expected to witness heavy to extremely heavy rainfall due to active monsoon systems.
Northern and Northwestern India on High Alert
In the Himalayan belt, very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Uttarakhand (August 31–September 1) and Himachal Pradesh (August 31–September 3). The Jammu region will see heavy to very heavy rain between August 31 and September 2, with extremely heavy rainfall likely on September 2. The plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and eastern Rajasthan are also set to receive heavy to very heavy showers on different days.
Active Monsoon in Western India
Western India will remain under the grip of the monsoon, with the Gujarat region forecast to receive extremely heavy rainfall on September 4–5, while Saurashtra and Kutch may see similar conditions on September 5–6. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada, particularly between August 31 and September 6.
Rainfall Outlook for Central and Eastern India
In central India, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are forecast to receive heavy rainfall over the next five days. Odisha will experience intense showers till September 2, while Vidarbha is expected to see heavy rainfall between September 2–4. Parts of Bihar and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands may also witness rainfall activity on August 31.
Northeast India to Remain Rain-Soaked
The northeastern states will continue to see strong monsoon activity. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to receive heavy rainfall for the next seven days. Assam and Meghalaya may experience heavy showers between August 31 and September 6, while Arunachal Pradesh could see intense rainfall on September 5–6.
Monsoon Gains Strength in Southern India
In the southern peninsula, Kerala, Mahe, and coastal Karnataka will remain under continuous heavy rainfall during the week. Tamil Nadu’s ghat areas may see rainfall on August 31, while North Interior Karnataka and Telangana are likely to get heavy showers around September 2. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam may see rainfall activity between September 1–3, with very heavy rainfall in coastal Karnataka on September 2–3.
Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast
Delhi and surrounding regions will experience cloudy skies and intermittent light to moderate showers from August 31 to September 3. A few areas may witness heavy rainfall on August 31 and September 1, especially during early mornings and late nights. Temperatures are expected to remain 3–5°C below normal, accompanied by southeasterly winds.
