NIRF 2025: Top 10 Agriculture Universities in India – Who Secured the No. 1 Spot?
06 September 2025, New Delhi: The Government of India has released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, which assesses higher education institutions across the country on parameters such as teaching, research, innovation, and outreach. This year’s list once again highlights the best-performing institutes in the field of agriculture education.
For students aspiring to build a career in agriculture, dairy science, animal husbandry, or horticulture, these rankings serve as a valuable guide in choosing the right institution.
Top 5 Agriculture Institutions in 2025
Leading the list once again is the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, maintaining its dominance with an impressive score. It is followed by the ICAR–National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, and the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, securing the second and third positions.
Uttar Pradesh institutions have also made their mark this year, with Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, and the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly, both featuring in the Top 5.
What’s New in 2025 Rankings?
One of the biggest surprises this year is the entry of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Srinagar, into the Top 10 for the very first time.
Meanwhile, IVRI Bareilly has climbed up one rank to secure the 5th spot, while GB Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, has slipped to 8th position compared to previous years.
Another notable highlight is the growing presence of private universities – institutions such as LPU and Amity University have earned places in the Top 20, reflecting their rising contribution to agricultural education in India.
