Kisan of India Samman 2025 Highlights Innovation, Sustainability and New-Age Farming Practices

05 December 2025, New DelhiThe inaugural Kisan of India Samman 2025, held in the national capital, brought together progressive farmers, agri-innovators, institutions, and experts to recognise practical advances in Indian agriculture. The event showcased real-world examples of sustainable farming, technology integration, and rural enterprise.

Amit Soni, an entrepreneur from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, shared how his millet-based bakery products have gained national attention, including a bajra chocolate truffle cake cut in Parliament and appreciated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sana Khan, known for her vermicomposting initiative highlighted by the Prime Minister in Mann ki Baat, encouraged young people to pursue agriculture and integrate modern techniques into farming systems.

Among the awardees was Khema Ram Choudhary, a progressive farmer from Jaipur who has adopted hydroponic NFT systems and polyhouse cultivation across eight acres of dryland. He was one of seven farmers recognised for contributions across diverse categories.

In a video message, Dr. Mangi Lal Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General, ICAR, said that these farmers represent the new direction of Indian agriculture. Dr. Rajarshi Roy Burman, Additional Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR, presented the awards and emphasised that farmers are the first researchers of the soil.

Actor and farmer Rajesh Kumar, known for his role in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, joined the felicitation and shared insights from his own transition into agriculture.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Anil Dhasmana, former Secretary, R&AW and former Chairman, NTRO, underlined the importance of linking remote farmers with new technologies.
Vinod Mishra, Country Manager, United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), said that millet cultivation could become India’s next major agricultural shift.

The Kisan of India Samman, organised by Kisan of India, honours exemplary farmers across seven categories: organic/natural farming, protected cultivation, food processing, agricultural start-up, dairy farming, fisheries, and new technology in agriculture. The jury comprised senior agricultural experts and media leaders, including Padma Shri farmer Sethpal Singh, Dr Shailendra Rajan, Prof A. P. Rao, and Pratap Somvanshi.

The day-long event also hosted panel discussions on women in agriculture, agri-tech entrepreneurship, and climate-smart farming.
