Attune Agriculture’s Entrapment® Insecticide Gains Approval for Use Across Continental U.S. and Puerto Rico
21 July 2025, Florida: Attune Agriculture, a pioneer in hydrocolloid-based agricultural inputs, has announced that its flagship insecticide product line, Entrapment®, is now officially registered for use throughout the continental United States and Puerto Rico. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted approval, marking a major milestone for growers seeking innovative pest control solutions amid growing regulatory and resistance challenges.
A Breakthrough in Physical Mode Pest Control
Entrapment® is a contact insecticide that works through three distinct physical modes of action, offering effective control of insect and mite pests without phytotoxicity. It is exempt from tolerance, ensuring it can be used safely on a wide range of crops. The product’s active ingredient, Rhexalloid®, transforms each spray droplet into a microscopic trap that adheres to the plant’s surface—immobilizing small insect and mite pests without affecting beneficial insects over 4mm in length.
Addressing a Critical Need in Crop Protection
The registration comes at a time when the pace of new pesticide approvals has sharply declined. Between the 1960s and 2000s, the U.S. EPA registered more than 100 new pesticide active ingredients per decade. However, during 2010–2019, this number dropped to fewer than 40 total—less than four per year—due to increasing regulatory hurdles and environmental scrutiny under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
“Growers today are under tremendous pressure,” said Greg Andon, CEO of Attune Agriculture. “Pest resistance, rising input costs, unpredictable weather—each season brings new challenges. Entrapment® is our answer to the industry’s call for an effective, affordable, and resistance-proof solution that can work in harmony with existing chemical controls.”
Product Line Tailored to Crop Needs
Entrapment® is available in four specialized formulations to address the unique needs of different crops and growing environments:
- FV (Fruit & Vegetable) – Designed for high-value crops such as fruits, vegetables, and nuts.
- RC (Row Crop) – Suitable for broadacre row crops, using low spray volumes for efficient field coverage.
- CK (Caterpillar Killer) – Targets stubborn pests like codling moth, navel orangeworm, mites, and whiteflies.
- SP (Specialty) – OMRI-listed for organic production systems, greenhouses, ornamental plants, turf, and golf courses.
Global Implications
Although currently registered only in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, the launch of Entrapment® may have wider implications for global agriculture, especially as governments and growers alike push for reduced reliance on conventional chemical insecticides. With physical-mode products like Entrapment®, the potential exists to address both pest resistance and environmental safety across international markets.
