Global Pesticides Market to Reach USD 147.35 Billion by 2037, Herbicides and Asia-Pacific to Lead: Research Nester

14 October 2025, New Delhi: The global pesticides market, valued at USD 108 billion in 2024, is projected to expand to USD 147.35 billion by 2037, according to Research Nester. This increase implies a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of roughly 2.42% over the 2024–2037 period. Herbicides are expected to capture about 52 percent of the market by product type, while the Asia-Pacific region is forecast to contribute roughly 44 percent of global revenue, driven largely by China and India.

The report attributes the market’s steady expansion to intensifying demand for food security, greater adoption of precision agriculture, and sustained government investment in sustainable pest-management programs.

Herbicides Remain Central to Crop Protection Strategies

As per the Research Nester analysis, herbicides will continue to dominate the product mix because of their essential role in weed control for staple crops such as grains, cereals and oilseeds. Adoption has been strongest in high-productivity regions—North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific—where selective chemistries and precision application techniques have improved crop safety and reduced off-target impacts. These technical advances, together with farmer preference for reliable, high-efficacy solutions, underpin herbicides’ commanding market position.

Liquid Formulations: Practicality and Precision

Research Nester reports that liquid formulations—including emulsifiable concentrates (EC), soluble liquids (SL), and suspension concentrates (SC)—are expected to secure about 23 percent of the market by 2037. These formats are preferred for their improved canopy coverage, rapid uptake and compatibility with automated spraying and precision-application equipment.

Industry data cited in the study indicate that liquid products already accounted for a large share of global pesticide sales by 2023, reinforcing the continued tilt toward liquids as mechanization and precision farming spread.

Asia-Pacific: The Engine of Market Growth

The Asia-Pacific region is forecast to contribute approximately 44 percent of global pesticide revenue by 2037. The report highlights China and India as the primary drivers, supported by strong policy push, capital investments and growing domestic manufacturing capacity that reduce supply chain vulnerability.

China: Scale, Green Policy and Manufacturing Investment

China is expected to represent about 31 percent of APAC’s pesticide market by 2037. Under its Green Agricultural Development Plan, the country directs substantial public funds to sustainable agriculture; the report notes investments and programmatic efforts that reduced per-hectare pesticide use by 19 percent between 2018 and 2023.

In 2024, China further committed significant capital to upgrade agrochemical manufacturing facilities to enhance both domestic supply and export potential. Local sourcing of raw materials helps bolster resilience against global disruption.

India: Growing Consumption, Policy Support for IPM and Bio-pesticides

India is forecast to account for roughly 12 percent of global pesticide revenue by 2037. Government programs under the National Action Plan on Pesticide Management and bio-pesticide subsidy schemes support broader adoption of integrated pest management (IPM) and low-risk alternatives. Between 2020 and 2024, India’s pesticide consumption grew meaningfully, while domestic manufacturing capacity saw large investments that strengthened local supply.

North America and Europe: Regulation, Stewardship and Innovation

The report projects North America to command about 27 percent of global pesticide revenue by 2037, led by the United States. Regulatory and stewardship programs, investment in safer alternatives, and rapid adoption of precision technologies underpin market activity. The U.S. EPA’s funding and initiatives to support safer pesticide use and integrated pest management are cited as important structural supports.

Canada is described as emphasizing chemical risk assessment and alternative solutions, with regulatory programs that have lowered residues and encouraged safer product development. Meanwhile, Europe will represent nearly 18 percentof global market revenue by 2037, governed by ambitious policies such as the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy, which aim to sharply reduce conventional pesticide use while funding innovation in biologicals and low-risk products.

Transitioning to Sustainable Crop Protection

With the market rising from USD 108 billion in 2024 to a projected USD 147.35 billion in 2037, the pesticides sector is set for gradual expansion characterized by stronger regulatory oversight, greater uptake of precision application technology, and accelerating development of biological and low-risk alternatives. Research Nester highlights a multi-vector transformation: herbicides remain the core revenue driver, but bio-pesticides, IPM, and eco-formulations are the segments with strong policy and R&D momentum.

Companies and policymakers that successfully integrate precision tools, invest in safer chemistries and promote farmer education will be best placed to reconcile productivity objectives with environmental commitments in the years ahead.
