Hachiman: Effective Weed Control through Dual Mode of Action
01 July 2025, Indore: During the Kharif season, weed infestation is a major concern, especially in pulse crops like soybean and groundnut. To address this problem, renowned agrochemical company Insecticides India Ltd.has launched Hachiman, a next-generation herbicide developed using advanced Japanese technology from Nissan Chemical Industries. Hachiman provides effective control over both narrow-leaved and broad-leaved weeds in pulse crops.
Mode of Action of Hachiman
Hachiman works through a dual mode of action. It inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids by blocking the enzyme Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase (ACC). Simultaneously, it stops the production of amino acids, essential for protein synthesis, by inhibiting the enzyme Aceto Lactate Synthase (ALS). Through this dual mechanism, Hachiman delivers long-lasting and efficient weed control.
Key Features of Hachiman
- Controls both narrow-leaved and broad-leaved weeds effectively.
- Once sprayed, it reaches the entire weed plant through both xylem and phloem tissue via systemic action.
- It also acts through the roots, offering prolonged weed suppression.
- Narrow-leaved weeds controlled include: Sawan (Barnyard grass), Makra (Foxtail), Viper grass, Crabgrass; Broad-leaved weeds include: Chanchali, Kankawa, Lahsua.
- Rainfall occurring 1–2 hours after spraying does not reduce its effectiveness.
- It is safe for all pulse crops.
- Promotes crop growth by eliminating weeds, not the crops.
Precautions
- Ensure spraying is done at the appropriate weed growth stage.
- Adequate soil moisture is essential at the time of spraying.
- In some cases, slight yellowing may appear on the crop after application, which naturally disappears within 7–10 days.
- Always use a flood jet or flat fan nozzle for application.
- Do not mix Hachiman with any insecticide, fungicide, or plant tonic.
Dosage and Application Timing
- Recommended dosage: 175 ml per acre.
- For improved results, mix and spray with H-Mix at 175 ml per acre.
- Apply when broad-leaved weeds are at the 2–3 leaf stage and narrow-leaved weeds are at the 2–3 leaf stage or 2–3 inches tall.
