ISO Approves ‘Carmeconazole’ as New Triazole Fungicide from Kureha Corporation
23 February 2026, US: The ISO has approved “carmeconazole” as the official ISO common name for a new triazole fungicide developed by Kureha Corporation. The approval was finalized on 18 February 2026, following the standard consultation process during which no objections were received to the proposed name.
Carmeconazole was previously known by its development code KNF-1934 and is chemically identified as methyl α-[2-chloro-4-(4-chlorophenoxy)phenyl]-α-hydroxy-1H-1,2,4-triazole-1-propanoate (CAS No. 2323565-15-5).
According to the ISO 1750 Maintenance Agency, the absence of objections during the naming review has allowed the term “carmeconazole” to move from provisional to fully approved status. The new name will be formally incorporated into the March 2026 update of the ISO 1750:2023 XML dataset, which serves as the global reference for pesticide common names.
In French, the provisionally approved common name is “carméconazole” (nm).
Carmeconazole belongs to the triazole class of fungicides, a group widely used in agriculture for their systemic activity and effectiveness in managing a broad spectrum of fungal diseases across major crops. The approval of its ISO name signals continued innovation in fungicide chemistry aimed at addressing resistance management and evolving disease pressures.
Further regulatory and commercial developments related to carmeconazole are expected as the product advances through country-level evaluation and registration processes.
