Moa Technology and Nufarm Advance Development of Novel Mode of Action Herbicide
31 October 2025, USA: Moa Technology and Nufarm have announced the start of the next phase of their collaboration aimed at developing a new herbicide with a novel mode of action. The project has reached this stage more than a year ahead of typical industry timelines.
The companies have evaluated multiple novel compounds identified through Moa’s GALAXY discovery platform, which have shown consistent efficacy against major herbicide-resistant weeds during three consecutive seasons of field trials across North and South America, Australia, and Europe.
Moa and Nufarm are now focusing on advancing a broad-spectrum pre-emergence herbicide candidate toward lead selection and preparation for regulatory submission. This progress comes within just 24 months of the initial classification and validation of this mode of action by Moa’s GALAXY platform.
The collaboration between Moa Technology and Nufarm began in July 2024, with a joint objective to develop a safe and effective herbicide capable of addressing global weed resistance challenges. Under the agreement, Nufarm holds exclusive rights to a compound from one of Moa’s novel chemical classes. Moa will receive upfront and milestone payments, as well as royalties from future product sales. Nufarm also retains an exclusive first option to commercialise additional compounds from the same discovery area.
The initial research phase was completed within twelve months. The upcoming phase will include expanded global field trials, crop-use assessments, human and environmental safety studies, and further product optimization for commercial application.
