Tropical Agro Launches New Herbicide ‘Tag Proxy’ in India
21 May 2025, New Delhi: Tropical Agrosystem (India) Pvt. Ltd. has announced the nationwide launch of its new patented herbicide — Tag Proxy. The product is expected to play a crucial role in addressing rising farm input costs and acute labour shortages that are increasingly impacting agricultural productivity across the country.
Advanced Herbicide Technology for Comprehensive Weed Control
Tag Proxy is a non-selective, post-emergent herbicide that promises effective and long-lasting weed control on Commelina benghalensis, Cyperus rotundus, Echinochloa colona, Cynodon dactylon in non-crop area. Its advanced formulation combines Paraquat Dichloride 22.4% W/W and Oxyfluorfen 1.99% W/W EW, offering quick action and extended field protection. With a single application, Tag Proxy delivers complete weed control, helping farmers save time, reduce costs, and lower their dependency on increasingly scarce manual labour. The product is particularly relevant in today’s farming environment, where efficiency and labour optimization have become essential for sustaining yields and profitability.
Addressing the launch, Mr. V.K. Jhaver, Founder of Tropical Agro, stated that Tag Proxy is a direct response to the challenges faced by Indian farmers in managing weed infestations and coping with declining availability of farm labour. He emphasized that the company’s mission is firmly rooted in farmer welfare and that this new product fills a vital gap in India’s weed management practices. Mr. Jhaver added that the company remains committed to introducing more innovative solutions that not only improve field efficiency but also strengthen the larger goal of India’s food security.
Massive Economic Losses Due to Weed Infestation
Weed management remains a persistent challenge in Indian agriculture. A joint study by the Federation of Seed Industry of India (FSII) and the Directorate of Weed Research indicates that weed-related losses account for 25 to 26 percent in Kharif crops and 18 to 25 percent in Rabi crops. These losses cumulatively result in an estimated annual productivity loss of over ₹92,000 crore. In this context, the launch of a product like Tag Proxy is expected to make a measurable impact in helping farmers recover a significant portion of their potential yield.
Nationwide Rollout Backed by Regulatory Approval
Tag Proxy has received approval from the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee (CIBRC) and will be available for sale across India starting May 21, 2025. The product has been developed to be farmer-friendly and easy to apply, ensuring its utility in diverse farming conditions across the country.
