UPL Launches Global Campaign ‘#AFarmerCan’ Ahead of COP30, Highlights Farmers’ Role in Climate Action

07 November 2025, MumbaiUPL has announced the launch of its global campaign, #AFarmerCan, ahead of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), scheduled from November 10–21, 2025, in Belém, Brazil. The campaign focuses on farmers and their contribution to climate resilience, urging global leaders to acknowledge their role in climate mitigation.

With operations in more than 140 countries, UPL works with smallholder and commercial farmers, offering agricultural solutions aligned with climate and food security priorities. Drawing on this work, UPL has developed 20 stories from farmers around the world, illustrating examples of agricultural initiatives that support greenhouse gas reduction, energy security, water conservation, soil health restoration, and biodiversity protection. These themes form the basis for UPL’s participation at COP30.

The campaign urges policymakers to support farmers through policies and incentives. It also seeks to create awareness among consumers about farmers’ contributions to food systems and climate solutions.

As part of its policy outreach at COP30, UPL has proposed a four-part framework to support farmer resilience:

  • Pay: Incentives for adopting climate-smart practices
  • Protect: Subsidies and insurance to reduce risk
  • Procure: Enhanced access to public markets for certified climate-friendly produce
  • Promote: Expansion of digital tools, soil data access, and knowledge systems for farmers

UPL will promote the campaign through on-ground and digital channels in Brazil and major markets. Campaign elements include airport placements, branded public transport in Belém, and QR codes linked to farmer stories. Digital communication and a film presenting the campaign theme are also planned.

During COP30, UPL will be present in the Blue Zone, the area designated for official negotiations and national pavilions. UPL will serve carbon-smart coffee from Brazil’s Mió brand, an example of agriculture’s potential to reduce CO₂. UPL will also exhibit at the AgriZone by Embrapa, where it will host panel discussions based on its five climate engagement pillars and present case studies, including a low methane rice initiative from India.
