Anthracnose Disease Threatens Soybean Crop During Monsoon – Urgent Advisory by National Soybean Research Institute, Indore
28 July 2025, New Delhi: Due to continued rainfall across major soybean-growing states, Anthracnose disease has emerged as a major threat to soybean crops this monsoon season. Farmers are advised to remain alert and act promptly. The ICAR – National Soybean Research Institute, Indore has released a crucial advisory recommending timely disease surveillance and fungicide application to protect crop yield.
How to Identify Anthracnose in Soybean
Symptoms of Anthracnose include dark, sunken lesions on stems, pods, and leaves. It can lead to early leaf fall, rotting of pods, and poor seed formation. The disease spreads rapidly in wet and humid conditions, especially during continuous rains.
Recommended Fungicide Sprays by NSRI, Indore
Farmers should apply any one of the following fungicides as soon as they notice the first signs of infection:
- Tebuconazole 25.9% EC – 625 ml per hectare
- Tebuconazole 38.39% SC – 625 ml per hectare
- Tebuconazole 10% + Sulphur 65% WG – 1.25 kg per hectare
- Carbendazim 12% + Mancozeb 63% WP – 1.25 kg per hectare
These fungicides are proven to control the spread of Anthracnose and help maintain soybean crop health.
Best Practices for Spraying
- Ensure even coverage across leaves and pods.
- Use clean water and a calibrated sprayer.
- Avoid spraying during high wind or rain.
- Re-inspect fields 7–10 days after the first application.
The National Soybean Research Institute, Indore, urges farmers to take proactive steps to monitor and manage Anthracnose disease in soybean. Early detection and timely fungicide application are critical to protecting your crop and reducing losses this season.
