High Yielding Varieties of Green Gram (Moong): IARI Scientific Seed Treatment and Sowing Guide

22 June 2025, New Delhi: The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) has recommended that farmers begin sowing green gram (moong) during this period. Proper moisture levels in the field are crucial for uniform seed germination.

High Yielding Varieties of Green Gram (Moong)

IARI advises seed treatment using Rhizobium culture and Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB) to enhance nutrient absorption and increase productivity. According to IARI, the high yielding green gram varieties include Pusa 1431, Pusa 1641, Pusa Vishal, Pusa 5931, SML-668, and Samrat.

These varieties are known for their superior yields, disease resistance, and excellent market demand. IARI strongly recommends farmers purchase seeds from certified agencies to ensure high germination rates and disease-free crops. By adopting these advanced practices, farmers can achieve higher green gram production and better income.
