High Yielding Varieties of Pigeonpea (Arhar): IARI Seed Treatment and Moisture Management Guide

22 June 2025, New Delhi: The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) advises farmers to start sowing pigeonpea (arhar) as the current weather is favorable. Maintaining adequate moisture in the field is essential to ensure proper seed germination.

Before sowing, IARI recommends treating pigeonpea seeds with crop-specific Rhizobium culture and Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB), which significantly improve crop yields by enhancing nitrogen fixation and nutrient availability.
