IARI Recommends Soil Testing and Nutrient Management During Off-Season Farm Operations

22 June 2025, New Delhi: During periods of reduced farm operations, the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) advises farmers to conduct soil testing to assess nutrient levels and prepare for upcoming cropping seasons. Soil testing should be carried out through certified laboratories to obtain accurate data on macro and micronutrient availability in the field.

Based on soil test reports, farmers can make informed decisions about the type and quantity of fertilizers or organic amendments needed. This ensures balanced fertilization, prevents nutrient deficiencies or toxicities, and helps improve overall soil health.

IARI emphasizes that proactive soil management during off-season periods is a long-term investment. Balanced soil fertility contributes not only to higher crop yields but also to sustainable farming practices by minimizing unnecessary input costs and environmental degradation.

Following IARI’s guidance on regular soil testing and nutrient management helps farmers optimize production and maintain soil health for future cropping cycles.
