Major Soybean Diseases in Kharif 2025: Symptoms, Recommended Agrochemicals, and Precautions
28 July 2025, New Delhi: As soybean crops enter critical growth stages during the Kharif 2025 season, timely disease monitoring and management are crucial for ensuring healthy yields. The ICAR – National Soybean Research Institute, Indore has issued important advisories for farmers to manage key diseases like Rhizoctonia Aerial Blight, Anthracnose, and viral infections such as YMV/SMV, along with stem fly. Below are the symptoms, recommended agrochemical interventions, and key precautions farmers should follow:
1. Rhizoctonia Aerial Blight
Symptoms:
Look for water-soaked lesions on leaves and stems that later turn brown or black, leading to blighting of plant parts.
Recommended Fungicides (Apply immediately after symptoms are observed):
- Fluxapyroxad 167 g/l + Pyraclostrobin 333 g/l SC @ 300 g/ha
- Pyraclostrobin 133 g/l + Epoxiconazole 50 g/l SE @ 750 ml/ha
- Pyraclostrobin 20 WG @ 375–500 g/ha
Precautions:
- Ensure thorough coverage during spraying.
- Avoid excess irrigation which promotes fungal spread.
2. Anthracnose Disease
Symptoms:
Infected plants show sunken dark lesions on stems and pods. Continuous rain increases the risk of infection.
Recommended Fungicides:
- Tebuconazole 25.9 EC @ 625 ml/ha
- Tebuconazole 38.39 SC @ 625 ml/ha
- Tebuconazole 10% + Sulphur 65% WG @ 1.25 kg/ha
- Carbendazim 12% + Mancozeb 63% WP @ 1.25 kg/ha
Precautions:
- Conduct field surveillance regularly, especially after rains.
- Do not delay treatment upon first appearance of symptoms.
3. YMV (Yellow Mosaic Virus) and SMV (Soybean Mosaic Virus)
Symptoms:
Yellowing or mosaic patterns on leaves, leaf curling, and stunted growth. These viruses are spread by whiteflies.
Recommended Insecticides (To control vectors and prevent spread):
- Thiamethoxam + Lambda Cyhalothrin @ 125 ml/ha
- Betacyfluthrin + Imidacloprid @ 350 ml/ha
- Acetamiprid 25% + Bifenthrin 25% WG @ 250 g/ha
Other Measures:
- Uproot and destroy infected plants immediately.
- Install yellow sticky traps to control whitefly population.
4. Stem Fly (Common Vector and Pest)
These recommended insecticides will also help control stem fly infestation, which causes internal stem tunneling and weakening.
General Precautions for All Treatments:
- Follow label instructions carefully.
- Use protective clothing while spraying.
- Ensure the use of clean water and calibrated spraying equipment.
- Avoid repeated use of same chemical group to reduce resistance build-up.
By staying vigilant and following the recommended practices by ICAR – National Soybean Research Institute, Indore, soybean farmers can effectively protect their crops from major disease threats this Kharif season and safeguard their yields.
