Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Badr Abdelatty, Minister For Foreign Affairs of The Arab Republic of Egypt
12 December 2025, Cairo: The FAO Director-General, Dr QU Dongyu, met today in Cairo with H.E. Badr Abdelatty, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, during his official visit to the country.
The Minister welcomed the Director-General and reaffirmed the Government of Egypt’s full support for the organization of the Third Global Working Conference of FAO Representatives hosted in Egypt. The Minister also expressed appreciation for the growing partnership and enhanced cooperation between Egypt and FAO.
The Director-General conveyed FAO’s gratitude for Egypt’s continued support, including its long-standing role in hosting FAO’s Regional Office for the Near East, as well as the Third Global Working Conference. The Director-General indicated that the conferment of the prestigious FAO Agricola medal to President Abd El Fatah Elsisi, is a testament of Egypt’s leadership in achieving food security and its growing regional role and sustained efforts to transform agrifood systems and advancing sustainable development.
The Minister reaffirmed Egypt’s appreciation for the ongoing collaboration with FAO, notably through South–South Cooperation initiatives in African countries. He further welcomed FAO’s internal reform process and the efficiencies it had generated.
Both sides exchanged views on the food security situation in the region, underlining FAO’s growing role in driving global agrifood systems transformation and in providing emergency and resilience support.
The Director-General and the Minister agreed to further enhance coordination to help alleviate the humanitarian situation in neighboring countries, in line with FAO’s mandate.
The meeting concluded with both leaders reiterating their commitment to continued close cooperation.
