Bilateral meeting with H.E. Guismala Hamza, Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development of the Central African Republic

16 February 2026, Rome: FAO Director-General QU Dongyu welcomed H.E. Guismala Hamza, Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development of the Central African Republic to FAO headquarters and expressed his appreciation for the good relations between the Central African Republic and FAO.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Director-General for the warm reception and commended the strong cooperation between FAO and the Central African Republic, and in particular paid tribute to the dedication and commitment of the FAO Country Representation in Bangui for its continued support to the Government.

The Minister presented the country’s national development plan for the agricultural sector, which included the mechanization of agriculture, strengthening agricultural research, the provision of improved seeds to farmers, enhancement of animal health services, and reinforced surveillance of zoonotic diseases. The Minister also underscored the importance of supporting the reintegration of returning refugees and internally displaced people, highlighting this as a key priority for stability and rural recovery. In this regard, he emphasized that FAO’s support, as a longstanding and trusted partner, was key for the successful implementation of these programmes.

In his response, the Director-General conveyed his congratulations to the President of the Republic on his recent re-election and commended efforts undertaken by the Government to move towards greater food self-sufficiency and to promote stability, noting in particular that the return of refugees was a positive indicator of progress. The Director-General reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to supporting the Central African Republic in advancing its development agenda and strengthening resilient agrifood systems. He also invited the country to join FAO’s Global Partnership Programme for Transboundary Animal Diseases to enhance regional cooperation and disease prevention efforts.

The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to continue to further strengthen their collaboration going forward.
