
Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Jorge Luis Tapia, Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba
29 July 2025, Addis Ababa: Today, the FAO Director-General met with His Excellency Jorge Luis Tapia, Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba on the margins of the UNFSS+4 Stocktake in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the Director-General for the meeting and for FAO’s strong support and collaboration, which had assisted the country in improving its agrifood system transformation. He informed that Cuba had joined FAO’s Hand-in-Hand Initiative and continued to participate in all other key FAO platforms. The Deputy Prime Minister further informed that Cuba would participate with a high-level delegation at the World Food Forum and FAO’s 80th Anniversary celebration in October. Finally, the Deputy Prime Minister commended FAO for the important role it continued to play globally to improve the lives and livelihoods of people, especially the most vulnerable.
The Director-General thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for the opportunity to meet and reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to continue to support Cuba’s agrifood system transformation, as well as to providing all the necessary technical support.
