Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt

09 December 2025, CairoOn the occasion of the official visit by Dr QU Dongyu, FAO Director-General, to the Arab Republic of Egypt to attend the 3rd FAO Global Working Conference of FAO Representatives, he met with H.E. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The meeting was also attended by H.E. Badr Abdelatty Minister for Foreign Affairs; Her Excellency Rania Abd-El Moneim Al-Mashat, Minister for Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation; and H.E. Alaa Farouk, Minister for Agriculture and Land Reclamation.

During the meeting, the Director-General expressed his appreciation for the growing cooperation between Egypt and FAO, and the long-standing support from Egypt to the organization, including through hosting the FAO Regional Office for the Near East.

The Director-General also thanked the Government of Egypt for hosting the 3rd FAO Global Working Conference of FAO Representatives from around the world. He also appreciated the key efforts by the government to achieve sustainable development, as well as the role of Egypt in addressing food security crises in the region and beyond. The Director-General reiterated FAO’s commitment to continue to provide comprehensive support to the Government’s vision and priorities, both at policy and field levels, across agrifood systems

The Prime Minister outlined the national strategic priorities in line with the Egypt Vision 2030 and appreciated FAO’s continued technical support. The Prime Minister provided an overview of the Government’s efforts to achieve sustainable development, boost agricultural productivity and deal with the impacts of climate change and disruptions in supply chains. He also referred to Egypt’s Water-Food-Energy Nexus (NWFE) and Haya Karima (Decent Life), which target rural villages with investment and a focus on agriculture for rural employment and income generation.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined the importance of working with FAO in promoting South-South and Triangular Cooperation, while the Minister for Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation appreciated the growing cooperation between the two sides in promoting regional leadership capacity building. From his side, the Minister of Agriclture referred to ongoing discussions on the promotion of digital agriculture in Egypt.

The two sides also discussed opportunities for bilateral cooperation, including through South-South and Triangular Cooperation, building on the signed Agreement between FAO and the Egyptian Agency for Partnership Development.
