
Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Rachmat Pambudy, Minister For National Development Planning Of The Republic Of Indonesia
29 July 2025, Addis Ababa: The FAO Director-General met with His Excellency Rachmat Pambudy, Minister for National Development Planning, of the Republic of Indonesia on the sidelines of the 2nd UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Director-General welcomed the opportunity to meet with the Minister and appreciated the long-standing collaboration between FAO and Indonesia. The Director-General reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to continue to support Indonesia on agrifood systems transformation with particular focus on aquaculture, forestry, water, fisheries and biodiversity as key sectors. He further congratulated Indonesia for being on a positive trajectory on its economic development path and for being the first country to implement South-South Cooperation more than twenty years ago. In this regard, the Director-General encouraged Indonesia to develop a national strategy, through the South-South Cooperation programme, with a focus on Africa to strengthen economic development through the rice and aquaculture sectors, and affirmed FAO’s commitment to continue providing the support needed.
The Director-General also stated that FAO’s reform process started in 2019 with the four “Es”, focused on building an Organization which was Efficient, Effective, Extraordinary, and Excellent, and now the process was continuing with the four “Rs”: Reform, Rebuild, Recovery and Renaissance.
The Minister thanked the Director-General for FAO’s support highlighting the important role that FAO had played in its agrifood system transformation. The Minister indicated they looked forward to participating in the World Food Forum and FAO’s 80th Anniversary celebrations in October. The Minister also confirmed that through the South-South Cooperation programme more than 300k tons of rice had been donated to Africa by Indonesia, and that they would continue to contribute positively towards Africa’s development, including through South-South Cooperation.
