Bilateral meeting with H.E. Yermek Kosherbayev, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan
14 October 2025, Rome: FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, met today with H.E. Yermek Kosherbayev, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, on occasion of the World Food Forum 2025 taking place at FAO headquarters, to review the ongoing collaboration between FAO and Kazakhstan and to discuss ways to further strengthen their strategic partnership.
The Director-General congratulated the Minister on his recent appointment and commended Kazakhstan for its active engagement in the FAO–Kazakhstan Partnership Programme, as well as the launch of the new Partnership Programme on Sustainable Water Resources and Irrigation. He encouraged continued collaboration in implementing the Country Programming Framework for 2026–2030 and in advancing agrifood systems transformation at national and regional levels.
The Minister reaffirmed the Government’s strong commitment to cooperation with FAO and highlighted Kazakhstan’s priorities in sustainable agriculture, efficient water resources management, and climate resilience. He expressed appreciation for FAO’s continued technical support and its contribution to improving Kazakhstan’s institutional framework in areas such as carbon neutrality, soil protection, and sustainable land management.
The Director-General thanked the Government of Kazakhstan for their generous contribution in setting up the Kazakhstan Room at FAO, which would be inaugurated officially immediately following their bilateral meeting.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close cooperation to enhance Kazakhstan’s contribution to regional and global food security.
