10,000 Farmer Producer Organisations Formed Under Central Sector FPO Scheme; Women Account for Nearly 22 Lakh Members

09 February 2026, New Delhi: India has completed the formation of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) under the Central Sector Scheme for the Formation and Promotion of 10,000 FPOs, marking a major milestone in strengthening collective farming and farmer-led enterprises across the country.

As of 1 January 2026, a total of 56.32 lakh farmers have been mobilised under the scheme, of which 21.96 lakh are women farmers, highlighting the growing participation of women in organised agri-business structures. Notably, 1,175 FPOs among the 10,000 registered entities are composed entirely of women members, reflecting focused efforts toward women-led farmer collectives.

The initiative, implemented by the Government of India, aims to enhance farmers’ access to markets, credit, technology, and value addition through professionally managed producer organisations.

The data was shared by Ramnath Thakur, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

The scheme is positioned as a key pillar of India’s strategy to improve farm incomes, promote aggregation of small and marginal farmers, and build resilient, market-oriented agricultural value chains.
