7.5 Lakh Farmers Practicing Organic Farming in Madhya Pradesh: Agriculture Minister Kanshana
24 August 2025, Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Agriculture Development Minister Edel Singh Kanshana stated that nearly 7.5 lakh farmers in the state are engaged in organic farming under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. He made this announcement while addressing farmers as the chief guest at a program organized at Sayaji Hotel, Bhopal.
The event was conducted by the International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA), where farmers from Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka participated. According to Kanshana, the program was organized under the Government of India’s Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), which promotes natural and organic farming across the country. Through this scheme, about 25 lakh farmers across India have benefited, covering nearly 15 lakh hectares.
Kanshana informed that so far, six lakh farmers have registered on the Government of India’s organic farming portal, which aims to connect farmers with markets for their organic produce. He also noted that ICCOA has trained and linked nearly three lakh farmers with certification over the last 21 years.
Highlighting the importance of market access, the minister said that the program creates a direct platform for interaction between farmers and buyers, benefitting not only farmers from Madhya Pradesh but across India.
He further emphasized the need for livestock integration with farming, stating that earlier households maintained cattle, ensuring natural manure supply. He cautioned that excessive use of chemical fertilizers impacts human health and encouraged farmers to adopt organic practices along with animal husbandry.
