14 July 2025, SehoreThe sale, storage, distribution, and use of all agrochemical products manufactured by Universal Agro Chemical Industries, including insecticides and fungicides, have been banned within Sehore district, Madhya Pradesh. The action follows serious complaints by local farmers regarding the poor quality and adverse effects of the company’s fungicide SPUR 709.

The Deputy Director of the Department of Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development, Ashok Kumar Upadhyay, has also written to the Director of the state department, urging for a statewide ban on the company’s products.

Farmers had reported significant crop damage after using SPUR 709 on soybean fields. According to the complaints, although the seeds germinated, plant growth stalled soon after, ultimately resulting in the complete destruction of the crop and severe economic losses. Repeated efforts by farmers to contact the manufacturer for resolution were ignored by the company.

Upon investigation and field inspection by the district agriculture department, the product was found to be of suspicious quality and in apparent violation of the Insecticides Act. Based on these findings, action was taken against the manufacturer.

Deputy Director Mr. Upadhyay has ordered a district-wide ban on all products made by Universal Agro Chemical Industries. Furthermore, all authorized agri-input dealers, wholesalers, and retailers in the district have been strictly instructed to comply with the order.
