Banned Pesticide Nuvan and Other Expired Pesticides Seized in Sihora; FIR Registered

09 December 2025, JabalpurIn a significant enforcement action, the Agriculture Department has lodged an FIR against the proprietor of Jai Maa Mamta Krishi Kendra in Budhuwa village, Sihora block, after inspectors discovered banned and expired pesticides being sold at the outlet. Officials said such violations pose serious risks to farmer safety, crop health, and environmental sustainability.

Surprise Inspection Reveals Regulatory Violations

According to Dr. S.K. Nigam, Deputy Director of Agriculture, a surprise inspection was conducted on December 5 by Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Mrs. Manisha Patel and Senior Agriculture Development Officer J.S. Rathore. The inspection team found that the shop had not maintained the mandatory stock register. Further, pesticides from manufacturers not listed in the shop’s license were being stored and sold—constituting a breach of regulatory norms.

Banned Nuvan Stock and 21 Expired Products Seized

During the inspection, officials seized 21 expired pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. Notably, 51 bottles of Nuvan (100 ml)—a product banned nationwide by the Government of India since August 8, 2018—were discovered in the store. All expired and banned products were confiscated and placed under official custody, with an immediate prohibition on their sale.

FIR Registered Under Insecticides Act, 1968

The Agriculture Department has filed an FIR against the proprietor, Rakesh Tiwari, under Sections 29(1)(a), 29(1)(d), and 29(2) of the Insecticides Act, 1968. The case has been registered at Majhgawan police station. Authorities have reiterated that strict compliance with pesticide regulations is essential to safeguard farmer welfare and ensure responsible agrochemical trade practices.
