Bihar Boosts Potato Farming with 75% Subsidy under Lady Rosetta Expansion Scheme

03 September 2025, New Delhi: To enhance potato cultivation and strengthen the agri-processing sector, the Bihar government has launched the Lady Rosetta Potato Expansion Scheme, offering farmers a subsidy of up to 75%. The initiative is expected to significantly raise farmers’ incomes while supporting the state’s growing demand for quality potatoes in the processing industry.

Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha announced that the scheme will cover 17 districts—Aurangabad, Banka, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Gopalganj, Katihar, Khagaria, Lakhisarai, Nalanda, Nawada, Patna, Samastipur, Saran, Sheikhpura, Siwan, and Vaishali. Farmers in these regions will receive substantial financial support for seed purchase and cultivation.

Scheme Details

The cost of seed per hectare is fixed at 30 quintals, with a ceiling of ₹4,000 per quintal. The total unit cost, including seeds and other inputs, has been set at ₹1,25,150 per hectare. Out of this, farmers will receive ₹93,863 as subsidy—disbursed in two installments. The first installment of ₹70,397 will support input purchase, while the second installment of ₹23,466 will be provided after field inspection and verification.

Rabi Season Cultivation

Potato sowing begins in late October or early November with the onset of the Rabi season. Under the scheme, farmers will be supplied with tissue culture-derived breeder seed (G-3) to ensure higher productivity and sustainability. Distribution of these seeds will be managed by district-level horticulture officials.
