India Launches Helpline to Curb Sale of Fake Farm Inputs

03 September 2025, New Delhi: India’s Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has directed strict action against the sale of counterfeit fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides, while announcing a dedicated helpline for farmers to register complaints.

During a high-level review meeting at Krishi Bhavan in New Delhi, Chouhan emphasized that resolving farmers’ grievances in a timely and transparent manner is as critical as designing new schemes. “Farmers’ satisfaction is our top priority. Only through swift and fair redressal can we build lasting trust,” he stated.

The Ministry has launched a toll-free number 1800-180-1551, enabling farmers across India to report cases of fake agricultural inputs and seek immediate assistance. Chouhan assured that all complaints received through portals and call centers will be monitored personally, with periodic reviews to ensure accountability.

Recent incidents, including crop losses due to spurious agrochemicals in Madhya Pradesh, have prompted the government to lodge FIRs and direct state authorities to suspend licenses of defaulting companies. Surprise inspections and stricter laws are also being considered to curb malpractice in the farm input sector.
