India Records Highest-Ever Monthly P&K Fertiliser Production at 15.76 LMT in January
10 February 2026, New Delhi: India recorded its highest-ever monthly production of phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers in January 2026, with domestic output reaching 15.76 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), according to data released by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. The figure includes production of key fertilisers such as di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) and complex NPK grades.
The Department of Fertilizers attributed the record output to a combination of policy reforms, capacity expansion, and improved availability of raw materials. The January figures mark the highest monthly P&K fertiliser production achieved in the country to date.
Policy Measures and Capacity Expansion
Officials said sustained policy support and investment incentives have enabled both public and private sector fertiliser manufacturers to operate at higher capacity utilisation levels.
Structural reforms introduced over recent years have encouraged expansion of existing facilities and commissioning of additional production lines.
International Agreements Secure Raw Material Supply
To reduce exposure to global supply disruptions, India has entered into long-term agreements with several resource-rich countries for fertiliser inputs.
These arrangements have helped stabilise raw material availability and allowed domestic plants to maintain consistent production schedules despite volatility in international markets.
Role of Nutrient Based Subsidy Framework
The Department also highlighted the role of the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) framework in supporting manufacturers. Timely release of subsidy payments has helped companies manage working capital requirements and maintain production continuity, particularly during periods of fluctuating input costs.
The increase in domestic P&K fertiliser production is expected to support the availability of fertilisers during the ongoing and upcoming cropping seasons, contributing to supply stability for Indian farmers and reducing dependence on imports.
