Madhya Pradesh Prepares for Rising Fertilizer Demand as Maize Cultivation Expands
21 August 2025, Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is bracing for higher fertilizer demand this season, with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announcing that the state expects to receive 5.6 lakh metric tonnes of urea in the next six weeks. The additional supply will help meet the needs of farmers after maize cultivation expanded by nearly five lakh hectares this year.
According to the state government, Madhya Pradesh had a total stock of 15.6 million tonnes of urea, of which almost 14 million tonnes have already been distributed. With just 1.68 million tonnes remaining in reserve, the fresh allocation is considered crucial to support farmers during the ongoing kharif season.
Agri-Exports at Record Levels
Madhya Pradesh also reported its highest-ever exports, valued at ₹66,218 crore in 2024-25, a 6% jump from the previous year. The growth came largely from soybean products, alongside pharmaceuticals and engineering goods. With this performance, the state has improved its national ranking in exports from 15th to 11th.
