Maharashtra Approves ₹337 Crore Compensation for Crop Loss; Farmers in Affected Districts to Receive Relief

24 July 2025, Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has approved a relief package of ₹337.41 crore for farmers whose crops were damaged due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms between February and May this year. The financial assistance will be transferred directly to the farmers’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Vidarbha and Marathwada Worst Affected

The unseasonal weather severely impacted farmers in the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions. In particular, two talukas of Jalna district witnessed crop damage across approximately 11,700 hectares. Major crops like cotton, wheat, gram (chana), and pigeon pea (tur) were destroyed, adversely affecting the livelihoods of thousands of farmers.

Direct Bank Transfers to Ensure Transparency

The state government has emphasized that the compensation will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of eligible farmers, eliminating any scope for middlemen or irregularities. District collectors have been instructed to publish the list of beneficiaries on official portals to maintain transparency in the process.

Financial Relief and Restored Confidence

This move by the Maharashtra government aims not just to provide economic support but also to restore farmers’ confidence. The compensation is expected to help affected farmers resume agricultural activities and recover from the unexpected weather-induced losses.
