Major Relief for Telangana Farmers: Union Minister Nadda Directs Timely Supply of Urea

10 July 2025, New Delhi: In a crucial move ahead of the Kharif season, the Central Government has assured timely supply of fertilizers to Telangana. Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Jagat Prakash Nadda, held a meeting on Tuesday with a delegation led by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, where the availability of fertilizers—especially urea—was a key point of discussion.

Chief Minister Reddy urged the Centre to ensure uninterrupted supply of urea during July and August, citing the urgent needs of farmers during the Kharif sowing period. He emphasized that timely access to fertilizers is critical for crop productivity.

Union Minister Assures Full Support

Responding to the request, Minister Nadda assured that the Centre would prioritize the needs of Telangana’s farmers. He instructed officials from the Department of Fertilizers to ensure that urea is supplied to the state on time and in the required quantities.

Rising Urea Consumption a Concern

However, the Union Minister also expressed concern over the steadily increasing use of urea in the state, warning that excessive use could degrade soil health. As per official data, urea sales during Rabi 2024–25 rose by 21% compared to the previous season, while Kharif 2025 has already seen a 12.4% increase in consumption so far.

Focus on Balanced Fertilization under PM-PRANAM Scheme

During the meeting, Fertilizers Secretary Rajat Kumar Mishra provided details about the Prime Minister’s PRANAM scheme, aimed at reducing excessive use of chemical fertilizers and promoting organic and natural farming practices. He urged the state government to take strict action against non-agricultural use of urea and ensure balanced distribution of fertilizers across all districts.
