Mercabarna’s Integrated Model a Blueprint for Madhya Pradesh’s Agri-Future: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav
CM Yadav Explores Spain’s Mercabarna: A Hub of Innovation, Talent, and Global Agri-Logistics
25 July 2025, New Delhi: During his official visit to Spain, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav visited Mercabarna—Europe’s leading food logistics hub located in Barcelona—and described it as a highly relevant model for Madhya Pradesh’s agricultural transformation. He noted that Mercabarna’s integrated approach to food handling—from production to international export—offers a clear path for states like Madhya Pradesh to modernise their agri-value chains.
Spanning 250 acres, Mercabarna operates as a single-window ecosystem that combines production, storage, processing, cold-chain logistics, packaging, and distribution under one roof. Dr. Yadav said that adopting similar models would help Madhya Pradesh strengthen its post-harvest management systems, promote value addition, and open new doors for agri-export.
“Mercabarna shows how integration and innovation can unlock the true potential of agriculture. We aim to replicate such excellence in Madhya Pradesh’s food clusters and mega parks,” said CM Yadav.
Spain–MP Collaboration on Agri-Logistics and Market Infrastructure
Dr. Yadav was received by Mr. Pablo Villanova, CEO of Mercabarna, who expressed strong interest in future cooperation with Madhya Pradesh. Discussions focused on the exchange of expertise in logistics, food safety systems, cold chain management, and sustainable market infrastructure. Mr. Villanova welcomed the idea of bilateral collaboration and acknowledged India—especially Madhya Pradesh—as a rising hub in global food production.
Mercabarna’s Talent Ecosystem: A Model for Future-Ready Agriculture
One of Mercabarna’s most inspiring features is its talent-led development model. With over 700 companies and a workforce of 7,500, it fosters a unique environment for skills development through food innovation labs, startup incubators, cold chain training centres, and dedicated programmes in food logistics and sustainability. Dr. Yadav recognised this as a scalable approach that could be brought to Madhya Pradesh to nurture agri-entrepreneurs, skilled workers, and young innovators.
The Chief Minister appreciated Mercabarna’s effective implementation of the farm-to-fork model—backed by world-class cold chain infrastructure, traceability systems, packaging standards, and hygiene compliance. He highlighted the relevance of Mercabarna’s Zero Waste Policy, Food Bank, and Food-Tech Incubator to Madhya Pradesh’s vision for green growth and rural entrepreneurship.
Accelerating Exports through Global Standards
Dr. Yadav stated that Mercabarna’s success in serving not just Spain but much of the European Union provides a benchmark for Madhya Pradesh’s agri-export ambitions. Learning from its protocols in food safety, export compliance, and international logistics can fast-track the state’s own exporters and agri-startups into global markets.
Open Call for Collaboration and Investment
CM Yadav invited Mercabarna’s leadership to explore opportunities in Madhya Pradesh’s agri-infrastructure and food parks. Aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, he said the state welcomes global partnerships and is committed to building resilient, innovation-driven, and export-oriented agri-business ecosystems.
