Brazilian Agriculture Drives 10.1% Growth in Q2 2025, Boosting National GDP
06 September 2025, Brasília: Brazil’s agricultural sector posted a strong performance in the second quarter of 2025, growing 10.1% compared to the same period in 2024. This robust growth contributed to a 2.2% increase in the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) year-on-year, according to data released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
“The GDP results highlight the strength of agriculture as a key driver of Brazil’s economy,” said Carlos Fávaro, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock. “This is a sector that invests, grows, and relies on the Brazilian rural producer. We remain committed to generating more results and creating new opportunities for farmers.”
The strong performance of agriculture was fueled by major crop outputs, as indicated by IBGE’s Systematic Agricultural Production Survey (LSPA) in August. Notable gains in estimated annual production and productivity include corn (19.9%), soybeans (14.2%), rice (17.7%), cotton (7.1%), and coffee (0.8%).
The report also highlighted Brazil’s broader economic performance. In the first half of 2025, GDP increased by 2.5% compared to the same period in 2024, driven by positive contributions from Agriculture (10.1%), Industry (1.7%), and Services (2.0%).
For the four quarters ending in June 2025, GDP rose 3.2% compared to the previous four quarters. This growth reflected a 3.0% increase in Value Added at basic prices and a 4.2% rise in Taxes on Products Net of Subsidies. Agriculture contributed 5.8% to the value-added growth, while Industry and Services grew by 2.4% and 2.9%, respectively.
