Advanta Secures Plant Variety Protection for Popular Hybrid Okra ‘Raadhika’

11 July 2025, MumbaiAdvanta Seeds, one of India’s leading hybrid seed companies, has secured Plant Variety Protection (PVP) in India for its widely adopted hybrid okra variety, Raadhika. This official recognition reinforces Advanta’s position as a front-runner in agricultural innovation and safeguards the integrity of its proprietary okra genetics.

Launched in 2018, Raadhika has rapidly become a game-changer in okra cultivation across India. Known for its combo virus tolerance, the variety empowers farmers with higher yields, improved resilience against diseases, and better returns on investment. Its consistent performance across multiple agro-climatic zones has made it a trusted name in the vegetable seed market.

Commenting on the milestone, Prashant Belgamwar, Regional Head – Asia and Africa at Advanta Seeds, said, “This recognition is a proud moment for all of us at Advanta. Raadhika is more than just a hybrid – it’s a symbol of hope and prosperity for farmers. Securing Plant Variety rights allows us to protect this innovation and ensure that farmers continue to benefit from its superior genetics without the threat of counterfeit seeds.”

The Plant Variety Protection grants Advanta exclusive rights to produce, market, and sell the Raadhika hybrid in India. It also enables the company to initiate legal action against any unauthorized use or reproduction of the variety. This is a significant step in securing both the interests of farmers and the company, ensuring that the supply chain maintains the highest standards of quality and authenticity.
