Best High Yielding Soybean Varieties for Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra (Kharif 2025)
25 May 2025, New Delhi: The Kharif 2025 season presents a crucial opportunity for soybean growers across central India to maximize their yield potential by adopting the right varieties and following timely agronomic practices. The optimum time for sowing soybean falls between the second week of June and the first week of July. However, experts strongly advise that sowing should only be undertaken after the arrival of monsoon, ensuring at least 100 mm of rainfall to support healthy crop establishment.
Farmers looking to stabilize yields over the long term are encouraged to conduct deep summer ploughing once every three years. This practice not only improves soil structure but also helps in managing soil-borne pests and diseases. For those who have not yet done this ploughing, it is recommended to carry it out this season, followed by two rounds of criss-cross harrowing. In normal weather years, land preparation can be completed using just criss-cross harrowing followed by planking to create a fine tilth.
Choosing the right variety is paramount for achieving high yields and ensuring resistance to prevalent pests and diseases. For the central region comprising Madhya Pradesh, Bundelkhand part of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and the north-western part of Maharashtra, several centrally notified soybean varieties have been recommended for Kharif 2025. These include NRC 165, JS 22-12, JS 22-16, NRC 150, NRC 152, JS 21-72, RVSM 2011-35, NRC 138, EMS 100-39, RVS 76, NRC 142, NRC 130, MACS 1520, RSC 10-46, RSC 10-52, AMS-M-B-5-18, AMS 1001, JS 20-116, JS 20-94, JS 20-98, and NRC 127.
In addition to these centrally notified varieties, state governments have also issued specific recommendations based on local agro-climatic conditions. For Madhya Pradesh, NRC 157, NRC 131, and NRC 136 have been highlighted as preferred choices due to their adaptability and consistent performance. Farmers in Maharashtra, especially in the north-western belt, are advised to consider MAUS 725 and Phoole Durva (KDS 992), which have shown excellent results in regional trials.
Soybean growers in Bundelkhand (Uttar Pradesh), Rajasthan, and Gujarat can confidently choose from the centrally approved varieties, which are designed to suit the soil and climate conditions typical of these states. By integrating timely sowing, effective land preparation, and suitable varietal selection, farmers across these five states can look forward to a productive Kharif 2025 soybean season.
As climatic uncertainties continue to challenge agricultural planning, adopting region-specific recommendations and scientific practices is the key to ensuring food security and farm profitability. For further guidance, farmers are encouraged to consult their local Krishi Vigyan Kendras or agricultural extension officers.
