Simon’s Seasonal Insights – Looking Forward To Next Season’s Onion Agronomy
03 December 2025, UK: Onion harvest was thankfully an early finish this season, compared to the last few years, with most of the crop was lifted in good conditions. Hopefully, this will help with quality through storage.
Looking forward now to next season and beyond, it was fantastic news to finally get the approval through for ORONDIS® Vip in early October.
Although there was a distinct lack of disease to report in trials this summer, due to the favourable conditions, this new co-formulation of oxathiapiprolin and metalaxyl-m in ORONDIS Vip has consistently shown the highest level of control over the past few seasons.
It’s shown it will deliver excellent efficacy as a replacement for ORONDIS® Plus, and has the benefit of a Syngenta optimised formulation with the two active substances. Also to note that this new product will have salad onion and leeks on label.
In other news, the label extension for SL567A® is progressing well, with the plan to include use on bulb onion and leeks. From an agronomic planning perspective, SL567A should always be applied in a tank mix with another product with good activity against the target disease. However, this gives access to another option to use in a strategy which should always include alternation of products and mode of action.
Slightly further in the future, we also have planned a new REVUS® formulation, with an improved formulation. This will of course be targeted primarily for late blight in potatoes, but is intended will also have bulb onions on the label.
There’s plenty of new agronomy options to discuss in our winter meetings, which will also include the results from other trials, including our biostimulant products.
